How to Apply for a Nursing License in Dubai Health Authority (DHA/DOH)

Hi guys. To comment, you can visit this link: Comment Page so there is no need to scroll old discussions.

Requirements:
Among the licensure exam I took, Dubai's nursing licensure exam was different because it was an oral exam. Usually with the other countries, it is a written or computerized test. The requirements for the application for DHA are found on their website www.dohms.gov.ae

Upon completion of the requirements, I personally went to their office to submit them. If you are applying with a sponsor, the sponsor will send the requirements thru their online account. I decided to take the exam without a sponsor because I wanted the privilege to choose where to work if I pass. If I took the exam with a sponsor, then I have no choice but to work with them. Anyway, upon submission, they will give you a return slip. It is indicated here when you can come back to check if you are qualified to take the exam or not.

When I knew that I was qualified to take the exam, I scheduled my exam date. Here you have two choices, regular or urgent dates of exams. The regular schedules are usually available in a month or two. With the urgent dates, I was able to scheduled my exam in the next 3 days. They asked me if I was ready since it was only a few daysaway. Well I had to take it because the next urgent schedule available was for another 3 weeks and I really wanted to work ASAP :)

The exam fees I paid for an urgent schedule with no sponsor was 2,020 AED. It was almost 25,000 pesos. If I took the regular schedule then the payment was only half of the amount. If you have a sponsor, then the sponsor will only pay 160AED.

Exam Day:
My schedule was in the afternoon. Before the exam starts, somebody will inform the nurses on who will come first and so on. There were 3 nurses in the panel. The questions they asked me were based on my work experience. It took around 10 to 20 minutes. Then they informed me check the website for the results after 3 - 5 working days.

Results:
I was really trying to assess myself if I made it or not. I kept on checking the results online every now and then. You need to enter your registration number. Then when I saw that I was fit to work as an RN. I was relieved. Ready to work. You can print the result online which you can show to your employer when applying for work.

My online interview result

License Card:
Dubai Health Authority will not issue the license unless you have the employer. You have 1 year to find an employer or you need to take the exams again.

License card - valid for 1 year

Employer:
Once you have found a place to work, you need to download from the DHA website the form that should be filled out by your employer to get your license. There in no payment here. You need to bring a copy of your Malpractice Insurance (which your company should provide). Also bring a 2 x 2 picture. That will be the one that will appear in your license. It only takes 5 minutes to print the card.

Renewal:
License renewal is done online via your employer. Then you need to go to the office to get the card. You need to again bring a copy of the renewed malpractice insurance.

This was my experience in 2009 in applying for a DHA Nursing License here in Dubai, UAE. I am not sure if there are any changes. I hope that my fellow nurses who are interested in taking the exam will benefit from my experience because when I applied/took the exam, I needed to come back and forth to the DHA office.

-They said that the applicant should apply for PSV before applying for an exam schedule.

-The 2 year work experience that is waived for the fresh graduates - this only applies for UAE nursing graduates.

-Company nurse, clinical nurse are considered as work experience.

Please if you have updates on new rules to get a license. I am Filipino and I want to work in dubai or abu dabi

I am me said...

I know someone who recently applied and he said that they now conduct verification of your submitted documents from your school before they approve your application. He said that there is a fee for this verification. goodluck!

I am reviewing for my exam next month. Do you have any suggestions what topic I will concentrate?thank you

I am me said...

Questions asked usually depends on the work experience you wrote on your application form. In my case it was ER so they were mostly related to it. But be ready for general nursing skills too. Goodluck!

About the new rule, do you know how long it takes for dha to verify school records

Anonymous said...

hi..Im a nurse in KSA..implanning to go to dubai after my contract here in MOH i just heard from a friend that there will be DHA exam soon in thr Philippines how true is that?

I am me said...

Hi. I asked some nurses but they too haven't heard about the DHA exam in the Philippines anytime soon. I will update my blog as soon as i verify it from the DHA office. I know for sure that HAAD (Abu Dhabi) nursing exam is available there.

I am me said...

About the verification of school records, my friend said that it took around 2-3 weeks when they verified her documents.

Anonymous said...

How many questions are being ask???

I am me said...

There are usually follow up questions after you answer. So I presume that there are no specific number of questions. All the members of the panel will take turns in asking their respective question. Goodluck!

thank u very much.. ;) your blog has been very helpful. I was hired for DM Healthcare there in dubai..but the agency & the employer are still processing our visa & the application for the exam..how long did it took you to find a job in hospitals there? are they open for male nurses also?

Thanks

please email it to me thanks

Hi. If you have an agency then i guess you will be with them until your contract ends but if you want to check job openings, you can visit jobs4u of gulfnews online. There are some companies requiring male nurses. You have greater chances of getting a job if you have the license. Goodluck!

I am caleen said...

Hi reach, It will be really nice if the dha have computerized exam but i am not familiar with this yet. Maybe you can visit their website for further information. Goodluck!

hi caleen! im new here in dubai with a residence visa. do you think they will allow me to apply for the date of the exam without my license yet? i have just graduated and passed the board exam this july 2011 and PRC will be releasing my license by next month. All my documents (duly notarized and attested thru UAE embassy) will probably be delivered to me by december. Any info with regard to this matter will be appreciated. Thanks! :)

Anonymous said...

hi again! do you have any idea where is the DHA office located (for setting the sched of exam)? Thanks! :)

I am caleen said...

Congratulations for passing the board exams. Your license from PRC is a requirement to apply for a dha nursing license. Pls contact their office for further info. Goodluck!

hi caleen ive been looking for job here since last month and most of the clinics wants to hire me but they required me to take the DHA examination and they want me to use their clinics name.... means they want to sponsor my examination.. i just wanna know how much will be the payment if i have sponsor..... plz email m cause my visa will expired this november 27 and i am planning to take the exam this month... because i have no choice...

hazel said...

by the way this is my email... britneyhaz@yahoo.com thank you so much...

I am caleen said...

hazel, clinics here in Dubai require their nurses to be licensed because if they are caught employing unlicensed nurses.. the clinic will pay a penalty (i think it's between 50 to 100k aed) and a possible suspension of the clinic's license. I think this is why they will not take the risk of hiring you if you do not have the license. If they will sponsor your exams, then you do not need to worry about the payment because in most cases, they will sponsor the fee.

If you are planning to take the exams, check the schedules available because regular exam dates could be months from now, if so.. you have the option of taking the urgent exam (but more expensive) This way, you can take the exams before your visa expires. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for the blog it cleared some questions i my mind.. But I just want to be sure about the visa status of a person applying dha license without sponsor/ employer here in Dubai; Having only visit visa, can I personally apply to take DHA exam without sponsor/ employer? Thanks in advance.:)

I am caleen said...

hi anonymous. when i applied, a 2 year work experience was a requirement but i heard that they give exams to fresh graduates now (didn't verify this yet though). i think it's better to have the 2 year experience and while doing so, you can prepare your documents like tor and diploma with ched, red ribbon and stamp from the uae embassy in the philippines. It's better to have them with you when you apply.

I am caleen said...

di danz, visa is not a requirement in applying for dha exams. yes you can take the exams even if you have a visit visa. Goodluck!

I am caleen said...

Hi. Thank you for appreciating the blog. Requirements for dental assistants are also listed in DHA website. Sign in as an individual user to access the licensure site. As far as I know, all licensure exams given by DHA take the oral exam. Goodluck!

I have one inquiry about getting Certificate of Good Standing from KSA (Saudi Commission for Health Specialist).
Can i request this cert of good standing from SCHS thru online. Coz I can't process it personally as of this time.
Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Hello! I'm also a nurse here in the Philippines. I'm also planning to go to Dubai, and hopefully, work as a nurse there. I will be having my volunteer experience next year. What are the requirements in order to get the DAH/DOH exam? Is the 2-year experience needed in order to get this exam? Is a volunteer experience okay or do I need to have an experience in the hospital as a real staff nurse with pay? I'm hoping for your reply. Thank you! :)

I am caleen said...

hi Anu. The credentialing process is where they verify that the documents you submitted are authentic. There is a fee for the verification and you will be given a certain date to come back for you to know if you are qualified or not. With regards to the payment, please contact their office.

I am caleen said...

Dear Coleen, I regret to inform you that I have no idea with regards to the good standing certificate from Saudi. I submitted a good standing certificate from PRC, in case this might help. Goodluck!!

I am caleen said...

Dear Pamela, you can find the requirements in their website.

www.dohms.gov.ae

Register so you can access the information. Volunteer experience is not credited as work experience. You don't really have to work in the hospital for experience. You can work as a nurse in a clinic or company. Goodluck!!

anu said...

hai caleen am anu..thank you for ur information.so only after completing the credentialing process i could write the exam???

Pamela said...

Hello Caleen! So,can I have my experience here as a clinic nurse in our town? Is it acceptable? Thank you for replying Caleen.. :)

Hi Caleen! You have a very insightful and very informative blog. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I wish you all the best and may you have more blessings to come.

Just like any other hopefuls, I wish to get there in Dubai and I hope that you and your blog may be able to guide me along the way.

I am currently working in a government hospital in Riyadh for 3 years now but I would like to make another move and that is to seek for employment there in Dubai. I just have a couple of question for you and I wish that you could help me clear my doubts because I will just use a tourist visa in order to get there and I believe that what am planning to do is too risky..

My question is, is it possible for me to get a job and to pass that DHA exam in a span of 30-day visit/tourist visa? (is there really a great chance)

For how long would it take for you to process your application to take DHA exams? (days?weeks?)

For how long you were able to get a job after passing the DHA exam? (sorry I just need to know, because going to Dubai is too risky for me)

And did you go back to Philippines to process a working visa permit and have it register to POEA?

I hope for your kind response! Thank you! God Bless! =)

Movex3d said...

Hi Thess,

Why risk? Dubai is full of opportunity so be optimistic and dont stop moving welcome to Dubai Thess! Goodluck! =)

Thess said...

oh thanks Movex3d.. well I just need to make sure that I'd be able to do all these in 30 days because I would definitely have a limited time once I landed there using a tourist visa..

Do you mind if you share your experience there in Dubai, I would definitely appreciate that..

Movex3d said...

Hi Thess, maybe next time i reserved it for MMK =)

I suggest register first in DHA website attached all requirements and if they approved they will ask you to pay the PSV and they will give you assessment schedule in http://www.prometric.com for your examination test and then take the schedule in the date of you're arrival in Dubai so you will not waste you're time or second option you can take the exam in Saudi this is the address...

8743: RIYADH WOMEN, SAUDI ARABIA
NEW HORIZONS CLC
OLIAYA MAIN STREET, Behind Jarir Bookstore
RIYADH WOMEN

the prometric is international so I think DHA will allowed to do so.

However the website of DHA are link to prometric website so you can check anytime in your account if still have pending task.

Goodluck! =)

Thess said...

aww!! Thank you so much Movex3d for sharing all these knowledge and information.. so this prometric exam for DHA is really available in Riyadh.. then that would be great!! I think I know this place. =)

Well thank you for your suggestions. You have been very helpful. God bless! =)

I am caleen said...

Hi Thess. Thank you for finding the blog helpful. I came to Dubai with a residence visa that's why I can't advice on the processing of tourist to working visa.

I agree with Movex3d. It's better if you can get hold of a DHA license before coming to Dubai. I know a lot of nurses who ended up with a different career bacause they didn't have the license or had limited time. Getting a job after 1 month is possible but no guarantee. Though I think that you have the edge if you have a Middle East experience and a license.

Goodluck!

I am caleen said...

Hi Movex3d. It's PSV first :)

Thess said...

Thanks so much Caleen.Godspeed! =)

I just have another one question, because I tried to take an appointment for the schedule exam via online in their Prometric system but they are asking for eligibility ID which I really do not know where to get because the website itself is not giving a clear information about what it is... As I tried to search on google, I found a thread regarding about it. From what they have mentioned, there is a need to get a sponsorship from Dubai either from clinic or hospital in order to get this ELIGIBILITY then afterwards that's the only time we can book for exam..

If anyone knows how this prometric exam works, I would really appreciate any of your response and clarification regarding the process of application online.

Thank you!

hai,,now you have paid for credentialing process and you will get a notification in ur mail with in two weeks whether ur application is approved, and you will get an eligibilty number, next step is you have to pay for PSV(primary source verification) through online. Its about700 AED for nurses. After that u will get a mail from data flow company whom through which PSV is done.then u will get one "pending task "in ur DHA account showing to select assessment date. You will get a prometric ID.(NOTE:: this id will be active only after 5working days in the prometric system). Then u have to follow the link site www.prometric.com and select exam centre and date and pay for it.Its around 600AED.Then u will get a confirmation mail and u can write exam..THANK YOU.

Hi Anu,

I am caleen said...

Hi. Alam ko hindi accepted kung trainee ang nakalagay sa certificate.

I am caleen said...

Hi. I know somebody na reject yung application kasi 2 years ago pa yung work experience nya. I think it's better kung recent.

I am caleen said...

Goodluck :)

Pamela said...

Hello po! we share the same dilemma, joedags. :) I also graduated last March 2010. and I'm having my nursing training now. But I'm planning to work as a clinic nurse in our town to gain experience. Is it acceptable Caleen? Do you think if ever I will apply, will they accept my papers? And I'm having a query about the number of experience required. Is 5 months okay, as a HIRED NURSE (may it be clinic/company/hospital nurse) ? Or a minimum of 2 years is required? Thank you! I'm hoping for your reply, guys. :)

gsc stands for what?

Anonymous said...

i got my eligibility letter already. when do I need to submit this gsc?

Anonymous said...

hi..we have the same case. i also have license in KSA. do they really need a Certificate of Good Standing from KSA? coz I am still here in KSA, so I can take it before my next step to dubai..

sheela said...

Valid certificate of Good Standing from previous licensing authorities. If
working in a country where there is no licensing authority then a letter of goodstanding will be accepted from previous employer.this information given in dha website, but one doubt, experience certificate it self they mension conduct certificate this correct or i can get from different cerficate from nursing board

Hi there people, I was reading almost the whole page and found it very helpful for new applicants like me. I just want to clarify something about the exam, cause currently,I'm still here in Saudi and about to finish my contract in two months time., I actually applied for a job there online and the HR just called me this morning asking me to take the exam prior to going DXB, but according to the information you just said here,. the exam is oral,. would it be the same if i'll take the exam online, do they have the same bearing? or I still need to take an oral exam once i get there? thanks =)

Its defense what type of PR do you have or lucky you are... I met a pilipina nurse here his salary already 15k dirham she even not a CN or HN some nurse only 2k but proud and happy =)... Im so jealous...

Movex3d said...

Naaah! Its alright I try to help Caleen to answer all your questions shes very nice... =)

Yes! just scan all your documents and sent online they can verify it all because your paying hundreds of Dirham to them... goodluck! =)

Anonymous said...

so does it mean 700 dirhams is another fee aside from the exam fee itself? if i need to take the exam here in saudi, does it mean that i have to go to riyadh? is it the only testing center here? and in case i take the exam , do i still need to take the panel interview exam or its the same?

Thanks for finding the blog helpful. You can choose computer based exam if you're in KSA. I took the oral exam because computer based was only introduced recently. Kindly check the DHA website for their testing centers in KSA.
